STAGING A REVOLUTION
About:
Banned by the state, the Free Theatre of Belarus performs in secret locations and texts the venue to audiences. Every play could be their last. Husband and wife team, Nikolai Khalezin and Natalya Kolyada, have devoted their lives to the theatre. They give voice to the outsiders of Belarusian society: the gay, the disabled, the mentally ill… and they provide a vehicle for political resistance in what is Europe’s last dictatorship. Staging a Revolution provides an intimate look into this underground world; a world that for their own safety, Nikolai and Natalya may be ultimately forced to leave behind.
