LUKASHENKO AND ME (forthcoming)

Irina Bogdanova and Eva Neklaeva had never met. In fact they are relatives of political rivals. But the actions of Belarusian President Aleksandar Lukshenko have brought them together. On December 19th 2010 he ordered his security forces to carry out a violent crackdown on tens of thousands of people who had gathered to protest against the result of the Presidential election. Irina’s brother and Eva’s father were candidates. They were both badly beaten and remain in prison. Irina and Eva are shy and private women who have been thrust into the limelight of politics to save the ones they love. This is their story. It is a personal and emotional journey. But it is no longer just about their families. Now they are intent on doing everything they can to bring down Europe’s last dictator.

STAGING A REVOLUTION (December, 2010/27 minutes)

Banned by the state, the Free Theatre of Belarus performs in secret locations and texts the venue to audiences. Every play could be their last. Husband and wife team, Nikolai Khalezin and Natalya Kolyada, have devoted their lives to the theatre. They give voice to the outsiders of Belarusian society: the gay, the disabled, the mentally ill… and they provide a vehicle for political resistance in what is Europe’s last dictatorship. Staging a Revolution provides an intimate look into this underground world; a world that for their own safety, Nikolai and Natalya may be ultimately forced to leave behind.

BEYOND THE PINK CURTAIN (January, 2009/71 minutes)

Beyond the Pink Curtain is a powerful documentary that provokes thoughtful questions about the depth of acceptance of the gay community across Europe. Through the eyes of those at the frontline, we see how the battle for true equality continues, and how, in some countries, this battle is being lost.
